With matches in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup is a three-country tournament. That is wonderful for fans who want to see more of southern Africa, but it also means three sets of entry rules. A trip that starts in Cape Town, moves to Victoria Falls and finishes in Windhoek could involve three separate border processes.
This guide explains the general picture and the documents worth checking. It is not legal or immigration advice, and entry rules change. Requirements depend on your nationality, the passport you hold, where you are travelling from and the purpose of your visit. Always confirm the current position with the official government sources listed below before you book anything non-refundable.
The short version
- Each host country has its own entry rules. A visa or exemption for one does not automatically cover the others.
- Many nationalities can visit South Africa without a visa for short stays, while others typically need to apply in advance.
- Fans from some major cricket nations, including India and Pakistan, generally need to apply for a South African visa before travelling. Check the current rules for your passport.
- Check passport validity and blank pages well before you travel.
- If you have been in a yellow fever risk country, you may need a vaccination certificate.
- Apply early. Demand during a global tournament could slow processing.
Where to check official information
| Country | Official source to consult |
|---|---|
| South Africa | Department of Home Affairs |
| Zimbabwe | Department of Immigration (including its official e-visa portal) |
| Namibia | Ministry of Home Affairs (immigration services) |
You can also contact the embassy, high commission or consulate of the relevant country in your home nation. Your own government’s foreign travel advice pages are another useful cross-check.
Be wary of third-party websites that look official but charge extra fees for visa “services”. Search carefully and make sure you are on a genuine government site before submitting personal information or payment.
South Africa
South Africa hosts 41 of the 57 matches, including both semi-finals and the final, so almost every travelling fan will pass through it.
Who needs a visa?
South Africa maintains a list of countries whose citizens can visit without a visa for a limited period. Many European, North American and some Commonwealth passport holders are typically on it, but the length of permitted stay varies. Citizens of a number of other countries, including India and Pakistan, typically need to apply for a visa in advance. South Africa has been developing electronic visa options for some nationalities, so check whether that route is available to you.
Passport requirements
- Validity: Your passport should usually be valid for a set period beyond your planned departure date. Check the exact requirement.
- Blank pages: South Africa is known to require at least two blank pages in your passport for entry stamps. Check the current rule, and renew your passport early if you are short of space.
Other documents to have ready
- Proof of onward or return travel
- Evidence of accommodation, such as hotel bookings
- Proof of sufficient funds, if requested
- Your match tickets or ticket confirmation can be helpful context, though they are not a visa
Travelling with children
South Africa has, in the past, applied specific documentation rules for minors travelling into or out of the country. If you are bringing children, check the current requirements carefully, especially if only one parent is travelling.
Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe hosts ten matches across Harare, Bulawayo and Victoria Falls, including Zimbabwe v India at the new Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium on 24 October.
Visa options
Zimbabwe groups nationalities into categories. Some can enter without a visa, some can obtain one on arrival, and others must apply in advance. An official e-visa portal is available for many travellers, and applying online before you travel can save time at the border. Check which category your passport falls into.
The KAZA UniVisa
The KAZA UniVisa is a joint tourist visa that has covered both Zimbabwe and Zambia, allowing multiple crossings between the two countries during its validity. It is particularly useful if you want to see Victoria Falls from both the Zimbabwean and Zambian sides, or take a day trip into Livingstone. Availability has varied over time and may depend on your nationality and point of entry, so check whether it is currently being issued before relying on it.
Namibia
Namibia hosts six matches, all at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek, including the three-match Super Series that opens the tournament on 2, 4 and 6 October.
Visa options
Namibia has updated its visa policy in recent years, and some nationalities that previously enjoyed visa-free entry may now need a visa on arrival or an advance application. Check the latest position with the Ministry of Home Affairs before you travel, even if you have visited Namibia visa-free in the past.
Health requirements
Yellow fever
None of the three host nations is generally considered a yellow fever risk area, but if you are arriving from, or have transited through, a country with a risk of yellow fever transmission, you may be asked for a valid vaccination certificate. This can apply to transit stops of a certain length, so check your routing carefully. Rules apply to entry into each country separately.
Other health advice
Consult a travel health clinic several weeks before departure. Malaria risk exists in some parts of the region, including areas around Victoria Falls at certain times of year, so ask for advice specific to your itinerary.
Travel insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. Look for cover that includes:
- Medical treatment and emergency evacuation
- Cancellation and curtailment, including if your visa is refused
- Lost or stolen belongings and documents
- Any activities you plan to do, such as safaris or adventure sports near Victoria Falls
Read the policy wording on cancellation carefully, especially if you are booking before you know whether your ballot application has been successful.
Suggested timeline
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| Now | Check passport validity and blank pages; renew if needed |
| Before the ballot closes (21 Nov 2026) | Enter the ticket ballot for the matches you want |
| Once tickets are confirmed | Check visa rules for every country on your itinerary |
| Several months before travel | Submit visa applications; book flexible flights and accommodation |
| Six to eight weeks before travel | Visit a travel health clinic; buy insurance if not already done |
| Final week | Print copies of visas, bookings, insurance and tickets; check for rule changes |
Final checklist
- Passport valid for the required period, with enough blank pages
- Visa or confirmed visa exemption for each country you will enter
- Proof of return or onward travel and accommodation
- Yellow fever certificate, if your route requires one
- Travel insurance documents
- Copies of key documents stored separately from the originals
