About the ground

The Mosi-oa-Tunya International Cricket Stadium is one of the newest venues in world cricket, built specifically to bring World Cup matches to the town of Victoria Falls. Construction was reported to be nearing completion in October 2026, so details of the finished facilities, seating and spectator arrangements may still be confirmed closer to the tournament.

Its name comes from the local name for the falls themselves, Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning “the smoke that thunders”. Few venues anywhere can offer the combination of World Cup cricket and a natural wonder on the doorstep.

Key CWC 2027 matches

The ground’s first match is the big one: Zimbabwe v India on 24 October, starting at 10:00 local time. Expect huge interest from both sets of supporters, and with a modest capacity, tickets may be scarce.

The stadium then hosts three Super 7 matches. The standout is likely to be 28 October, when the winners and runners-up of Group A meet, a game that could have a significant bearing on the semi-final places.

Getting there

Victoria Falls International Airport (VFA) is about 20 km from the ground and has connections with Johannesburg and other regional hubs. Some visitors fly into Livingstone in Zambia, just across the border, but check visa and border requirements carefully if you plan to do so; the KAZA UNIVISA has in the past allowed travel between Zimbabwe and Zambia, so check whether it is available when you travel.

Victoria Falls is a small town, and taxis and lodge transfers are the usual way to get around. Organisers are likely to put special transport in place for a new venue of this kind, so check official transport plans closer to the time.

Where to stay

The town offers everything from backpacker lodges to luxury hotels, many within walking distance of the falls, as well as safari lodges in the surrounding area. Demand during the tournament, especially around the India match, could be very high, so book as early as possible.

Match-day tips

Late October and early November are among the hottest times of year in the Zambezi valley, and temperatures can be very high. Sun cream, a wide-brimmed hat, light clothing and plenty of water are essential, and pace yourself through the day. The rainy season may start to arrive in November, bringing occasional storms.

Check the official stadium rules for bags and prohibited items, which may only be published nearer the time for a new ground. US dollars are widely used in Zimbabwe and small notes are useful; card acceptance varies. Wildlife does roam in and around the town, so take local advice and avoid walking in unlit areas at night. Malaria is present in the region, so seek medical advice before travelling.

Beyond the cricket

The falls themselves are unmissable. Note that late in the dry season the water flow is usually at its lowest, which can mean clearer views of the gorge on the Zimbabwean side but less spray. A sunset cruise on the Zambezi, the historic Victoria Falls Bridge and game drives in nearby Zambezi National Park complete a memorable trip.
