Bangladesh at CWC 2027

Bangladesh are in Group B with England, New Zealand, co-hosts South Africa, Sri Lanka and a qualifier to be confirmed. Every one of their group games except the Sri Lanka match is a day/night fixture.

Date Opponent Venue Start (local)
Fri 8 Oct England Namibia Cricket Ground, Windhoek 12:30 (day/night)
Tue 12 Oct New Zealand Buffalo Park, KuGompo City (East London) 12:30 (day/night)
Sat 16 Oct Sri Lanka Kingsmead, Durban 10:00
Tue 19 Oct South Africa Kingsmead, Durban 12:30 (day/night)
Sat 23 Oct Group B qualifier (TBC) SuperSport Park, Centurion 12:30 (day/night)

The Saturday clash with Sri Lanka in Durban is a fierce rivalry in its own right and could be decisive for both sides. Facing the hosts under lights at Kingsmead a few days later will be a test of composure in front of a partisan crowd.

World Cup history

Bangladesh have been regular participants since their first appearance in 1999. Their best campaign came in 2015 in Australia and New Zealand, when a win over England in Adelaide carried them into the quarter-finals for the first time. They have also produced memorable upsets over the years, including victory over India in the Caribbean in 2007. Turning occasional giant-killing into consistent progress to the knockout rounds remains the goal.

Conditions in southern Africa

Southern Africa will ask different questions of Bangladesh than the slow, low pitches of home. Highveld venues such as Centurion, and Windhoek in Namibia, are at altitude, where bounce is often steeper and the ball travels further. Durban, on the coast, has a reputation for helping seam and swing, especially under lights when humidity rises. Bangladesh’s spinners may find less assistance than usual, so the performance of their pace attack could be central to their prospects.

Travelling fans

From Dhaka, fans typically connect via Gulf hubs such as Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi, and there may be options through other Asian or African hubs; compare journey times, as some routings are long. Supporters from the diaspora in the UK, Middle East and elsewhere will add to the numbers. The hosts are on UTC+2, four hours behind Bangladesh, so a 12:30 day/night start is 16:30 in Dhaka.

Entry rules vary between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia and may require advance applications, so check the official government immigration websites as early as possible. Our visa guide explains where to start, and the tickets guide covers buying for each match.
