About the ground

Boland Park in Paarl is one of the most charming venues on the tournament list. Set in the heart of the Cape Winelands, with mountains on the horizon and the great granite domes of Paarl Rock nearby, it offers a very different experience from the big city stadiums. It is a compact ground with a strong local cricket following, and it has hosted international matches before, including at the 2003 World Cup.

With a smaller capacity than most venues, tickets here may be in short supply for the bigger fixtures, but those who get in can expect an intimate, relaxed day out.

Key CWC 2027 matches

The headline game is Australia v Pakistan on 22 October, a 10:00 local start between two former champions that could shape the Group A table.

Home fans will want to be here on 13 October, when South Africa play a qualifier in a day/night game starting at 12:30 local time.

On 4 November, Boland Park hosts a potentially big Super 7 meeting between the winners of Group A and Group B.

Getting there

Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is about 55 km away, and most visitors will travel by road. Hiring a car gives the most flexibility for exploring the Winelands, though you should not drive after drinking. E-hailing apps operate in the area, but availability may be more limited than in central Cape Town, particularly after a match, so arrange your return journey in advance if you can.

Many fans will base themselves in Cape Town and travel out for the day. Organised shuttles from Cape Town or nearby towns may be offered, so check official transport plans closer to the time.

Where to stay

Paarl itself has a good choice of guesthouses and wine-farm accommodation. Nearby Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are popular bases with excellent restaurants. Alternatively, staying in Cape Town and making a day trip lets you combine matches here with games at Newlands.

Match-day tips

The Winelands can be noticeably hotter than Cape Town itself in spring and early summer, as the valley is sheltered from the cooling sea breezes. A hat, sun cream and plenty of water are essential, and shade may be limited on grassy areas. For the day/night game, bring a layer for when the temperature drops after sunset.

Check the official stadium rules on bags, chairs and what you can bring in, as smaller grounds can have their own arrangements. Cards are widely accepted in the area, but carry some cash just in case. Plan your route home before the match, especially if travelling back to Cape Town after dark.

Beyond the cricket

Paarl Mountain Nature Reserve, home to Paarl Rock, offers walks and sweeping views over the valley. The surrounding Winelands are world-famous, with countless estates offering tastings and long lunches; consider a tour so nobody has to drive. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, with their historic Cape Dutch architecture, are both close by.
